Is this for me?

MD Field Mapper Pro is a LiDAR-based sweep mapping tool built for users who want repeatable, analyzable data. It is not a “set it and forget it” GPS app. This page helps you decide quickly whether you’ll get value from it today.

Great fit if you want…

  • Coil-path maps in local LiDAR coordinates (not GPS)
  • To tie detector audio metrics to the sweep path for offline QC
  • Control points and segmentation (L1, L2, …) for alignment workflows
  • Exports (SQLite/CSV/PLY) you can analyze on a desktop
  • A workflow that improves with better mounting and technique

Probably not a fit if you need…

  • Wireless/Bluetooth detector audio (not supported today)
  • Absolute GPS/UTM export (not available yet)
  • Perfect “true north” from the phone compass (compass is limited)
  • A handheld phone workflow (rigid shaft mounting is required)
  • One-button results with no post-processing

The biggest success factor: mounting

Rigid mounting is non-negotiable. The app assumes the camera crosshair represents the coil position. Any wobble, flex, or rotation breaks the geometry and distorts the sweep path.

If you’re unsure, read Getting Started first — it explains the mounting requirements clearly.

Two common ways people use the app

1) Detector + wired audio

  • Wired TRRS cable input (Bluetooth not supported)
  • Record sweep path + coil height proxy + audio metrics
  • Add control points to segment the survey and capture LiDAR snapshots

2) LiDAR-only mapping

  • No detector required
  • Capture local LiDAR coordinates + attitude channels for QC
  • Useful for coverage mapping and later alignment workflows

What to expect today

If you like working with data (or want to start), MD Field Mapper Pro is designed to reward careful technique.
